Stevens Hardware

153 Main St, Oneonta, NY‎ - (607) 432-2720

One of Oneonta's oldest businesses, Stevens has been around in one form or another since 1882, when T. Waldo Stevens started the store at 125 Main Street. Today Stevens' features sporting goods and specialty hardware; hard-to-find items you can't always find at the big home improvement stores. Need quality fishing gear? Want to set up your own horseshoe pit? Looking to buy a Swiss Army Knife for a gift? Stevens is the place to find it.

Brooks' House of Bar-B-Q

5560 State Highway 7, Oneonta, NY
(607) 432-1782

An institution. If you have friends or family visiting, make sure to bring them to Brooks. Best known for their chicken (the sign out front will tell you as much) they also offer two kinds of ribs, steaks, chicken spiedies, bbq pork and beef, trout, and a salad bar nearly as famous as the chicken. If you don't believe me, just ask a local about the cole slaw.
You can visit the sauce bottling facility while you are there, or peek on on the gigantic indoor pit, but the food comes first. Closed Mondays and the very occasional holiday.

Salvation Army

105 Main St, Oneonta, NY
(607) 432-0952

Pretty big store for the city's size. Not a lot of housewares or furniture, and what they have can be expensive for the quality. The women's section is very expansive. Lots of jewelry and knick knacks up by the front counter. You can find a good selection of fabrics, drapes, curtains, blankets and similar material. Always seem short on shoes, and lately, suits. As you walk in, keep an eye out for the blackboard, it will let you know what color tags are discounted that day. New stuff comes in on Mondays.
